Jonathan commiserates with China, Iran and Pakistan over earthquakes

President Goodluck Jonathan today commiserated with President Xi Jinping and the people of China over the massive devastation and loss of many lives caused by the earthquake which occurred in the countrys Sichuan Province today in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Reuben Abati.
The statement rsaid On behalf of himself, the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, President Jonathan conveys sincere condolences to all the families who suffered fatalities and injuries in the huge 7.0 magnitude earthquake.

The President conveys the solidarity and sincere sympathy of Nigeria and its people to the friendly people of China as they embark on an urgent search, rescue and relief operation to aid survivors of the earthquake.

President Jonathan has also written to commiserate with the government and people of Iran over the destruction and loss of lives caused by Tuesdays 7.8 magnitude earthquake near its southern city of Khash.

In a letter addressed to President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, President Jonathan conveyed Nigerias sympathy and condolences to the families of all who lost their lives or suffered injuries from the earthquake which was the most powerful to hit Iran in over 50 years.

I write to condole with you and the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the devastation caused by the unfortunate earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, 16thApril, 2013 near the South Eastern City of Khash, close to your countrys border with Pakistan.

Our hearts go out to the families of all those who have lost their lives, as well as all others who have suffered sundry injuries and losses in this disaster.

In expressing our solidarity with the Iranian Government and people at this time, we pray to Almighty God for strength, succour and quick recovery in the affected areas, the President wrote.

President Jonathan also wrote to commiserate with President Asif Ali Zadari of Pakistan where over 30 people were killed and many others injured by the impact of the earthquake.
