Iranian Parliament speaker says Moscow, Tehran 'have common goal' in Syria

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) Tehran welcomes the process ofjoining ofnew states tothe Syrian settlement process, especially if such countries coulirand contribute tothe solution ofthe crisis inthe country bypolitical means, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Sunday.

Iran, alongwith Russia and Turkey, has made a number ofefforts aimed atcessation ofhostilities inSyria, such asconvocation ofsettlement talks inAstana and establishment ofa trilateral mechanism onmonitoring the ceasefire inthe war-torn country.
"Russia and Iran have a common goal toreach a political settlement ofthe Syrian crisis and now are contributing torapprochement ofthe positions ofthe parties [to the conflict] We welcome joining ofother countries, which could support the process ofpolitical settlement," Larijani said inan interview withthe Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen broadcaster.


The Kazakh capital has already held two rounds ofthe talks betweenthe Syrian government and armed opposition groups brokered byAnkara, Moscow and Tehran. During the Astana talks, such countries, asJordan and the United States had been playing the role ofobserver states.
