Kerry praises Russia for playing crucial role to reach Iran nuclear deal

Sputnik- Russia played an integral role in the creation of a multilateral front which resulted in the Iran nuclear deal, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) In July 2015, Iran and the group ofsix international mediators, consisting ofthe European Union, China, Germany, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States, reached the JCPOA aimed atguaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program. "Russia was, infact, integral tothe efforts tocreate a multilateral, unified front that brought aboutthe Iran agreement," Kerry said duringthe World Economic Forum conference.

The plan required Iran, withinone year fromthe day ofits implementation, toremove all excess centrifuges and infrastructure fromthe Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant and totransfer them tostorage atthe Natanz Fuel Enrichment Plant undercontinuous Agency monitoring. According tothe deal, over1,000 centrifuges can remain atFordow forresearch and other non-enrichment purposes.

On January 16, 2016, the IAEA verified Tehrans compliance withthe JCPOA, opening way forIran's return tothe international oil market. The same day, the European Union announced that it was lifting sanctions againstIran.
