UN Secretary-General urges world leaders to adhere to 'robust' Iran nuclear deal

Sputnik- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the Iranian nuclear agreement was "robust" and the leaders of the international community should abide by the accord.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The UN chief said that he called onworld leaders tobe committed tothis accord. "I believe that this agreement byP5+1 that was a robust agreement We have torespect this agreement. I have been discussing this matter withIranian authorities and they are also concerned that if there are any changes or any disruptions ofthe process ofthis agreement then it will take much-much longer time [to implement the deal]. During that time, who knows what will happen again," Ban told the CNN broadcaster ina Tuesday interview, which was dedicated tothe forthcoming end ofthe official's tenure.

In July 2015, the P5+1 group ofcountries, comprising the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, reached an agreement withIran toensure Tehrans nuclear program remained peaceful inexchange forsanctions relief.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, US President-elect Donald Trump had repeatedly criticized the Iranian nuclear deal, which limits Tehran's nuclear program tothe peaceful purposes inexchange forthe easing ofinternational sanctions onIran, calling it the "stupidest" deal ofall time.
