Iran hopes to sign contracts worth some $130Bln with int'l energy companies

Sputnik- The Iranian authorities are negotiating contracts worth some $130 billion with foreign energy companies, Iranian Deputy Minister of Petroleum for International Affairs and Trading Amir Zamaninia said Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According toZamaninia, the consultations withforeign firms are being held inorder toincrease the country's exploration and production capabilities.

"Presently, a total of11 projects are being talked overwith credible international companies inthe oil and gas industry In case ofreaching final agreement, the eleven contracts are estimated tobe worth about $130 billion," Zamaninia said, asquoted byIran's Mehr news agency.

The official added that Tehran was intalks withsuch foreign oil and gas companies, asFrench energy giant Total, multinational Royal Dutch Shell and British Petroleum (BP) alongwith a number ofRussian and Chinese entities. In July 2015, Iran signed an historic nuclear deal withthe P5+1 group ofmediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.

Under the agreement, sanctions, including embargoes ongas and oil trade, were lifted offIran inexchange forcompliance withsafety guidelines onTehran's nuclear program. The accord allowed Iran toresume its petroleum exports and implementation ofa number offrozen projects inthe sphere ofenergy.
