Iran's parliamentary commission to help pursue Mina tragedy: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Saeed Ohadi announced that the parliaments Judicial and Legal Affairs Commission plans to provide consultations on ways to restore the rights of Iranian victims of last years deadly crush of people in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Ohadi said last week, a meeting was held in the parliament at the invitation of Judicial and Legal Affairs Commission to discuss the deadly crush of people during the last years Hajj rituals in Mina, near the Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca.

The official added that he and Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi, who is in charge of pursuing the rights of Iranian nationals martyred in the incident, participated in the session.

Ohadi further said at the end of the meeting, it was agreed that the Judicial and Legal Affairs Commission would provide consultations on legal ways to seek compensation from Saudi Arabia.

The deadly crush of Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia's Mina in September 2015 led to the death of more than 7,000 people, including 465 Iranians.

In a message last month, on the occasion of the first anniversary of Mina tragedy, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei strongly slammed murderous Saudi rulers for refusing to allow an international probe into the deadly crush, urging Muslims to correctly understand their (Saudis) blasphemous, faithless, dependent and materialistic nature".

Several thousand families from different countries lost their loved ones and their nations were bereaved. From the Islamic Republic, close to five hundred people were among the martyrs. The hearts of their families are still broken and bereaved and our people remain grief-stricken and angry," the Leader said at the time.

Instead of apology and remorse and judicial prosecution of those who were directly at fault in that horrifying event, Saudi rulers- with utmost shamelessness and insolence- refused to allow the formation of an international Islamic fact-finding committee.

Ayatollah Khamenei further stressed, "The world of Islam, including Muslim governments and peoples, must familiarize themselves with the Saudi rulers and correctly understand their blasphemous, faithless, dependent and materialistic nature. They must not let those rulers escape responsibility for the crimes they have caused throughout the world of Islam."
