Iran nearly self-sufficient in production of gas industry items: Official

TEHRAN, Sep 25 (Shana) Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hamid Reza Araqi says domestic manufacturers can supply up to 95% of the parts and items used in Iran's gas industry projects.

Addressing a conference here in Tehran on Sunday, Araqi said Iran is currently supplying 70% of its energy needs by natural gas.
He said NIGC, using the state-of-the-art methods, supplied gas to various sectors in a sustainable manner.

The state-run NIGC has a monopoly in distribution of natural gas and is in full control of all the country's gas delivery pipelines.
"For the time being, energy security has been instilled in various consumption sectors which has been made possible by relying on domestic resources," he said.

Araqi, who is also deputy petroleum minister in gas affairs, further said NIGC's main development took place following the Islamic Revolution back in 1979.

"Iran's economy depends on oil and gas industries and the latter is used to move the country's industrial wheels and even enhance recovery from oil fields," the official added.
