Pres. Rouhani urges world to establish peace, security

TEHRAN, Sep. 16 (MNA) Irans President Rouhani, while evaluating current regional and global situations as dissatisfactory, insisted that the whole world seeks to establish peace, stability and security.


President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in Mehrabad International Airport before leaving Tehran on Friday morning for Latin America; during the trip, joint meetings will be held with Venezuelan officials as well as other participants at the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, IRIB reported the Iranian President as saying.

Rouhani underlined that, following the NAM summit, a visit will be made to Cuba in order to hold bilateral talks with authorities of the friend country adding the visit to Cuba aims to investigate bilateral issues related to Latin American conditions given the influential role of Cuba in the region.

The official said the visit would also entail taking part and delivering a speech at the 71st UN General Assembly in New York in order to express views and opinions of the Islamic Republic of Iran; a meeting with Islamic scholars and thinkers and politicians as well as talking with the media have also been put on the agenda of the visit to New York.

The President said Iran attaches great importance first to its own national security and then to regional and global security underscoring peace, sovereignty and solidarity are the main themes of the forthcoming NAM summit, as the second largest global assembly after the United Nations (UN) given the membership of 120 countries.

Hassan Rouhani stressed that Iran pursues peace, non-interference in national sovereignty of countries as well as advice and consultation in line with resolving issues of the developing world as important objectives.

He expressed hope that during the visit, in addition to conveying views of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the international community, positive steps will be taken to improve bilateral relations with friend countries.
