Zarif: Interaction between Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan to grow

Baku, Aug 9, IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the statement signed by Iranian, Russian and Azeri presidents in Baku will accelerate interaction between the three countries.


Zarif made the remarks at a press briefing in Azeri capital held after the trilateral meeting between the three presidents on Monday.

At the briefing, Zarif said the next summit between Iran's Hassan Rouhani, Russia's Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijan's Ilham Aliyev will be held in Tehran as the Iranian President has proposed.

Also, the Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in the press conference that the three countries have discussed issues related to North-South Transport Corridor.

NorthSouth Transport Corridor is a sea, rail, and road route for exchange of goods between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia.

The outcomes of the trilateral meeting will let the three countries develop relations in the areas of energy, tourism, transportation, and economy, Mammadyarov added.

Iranian, Russian and Azeri presidents have also held talks on exchange of electricity, the Azeri foreign minister noted.

The three also discussed Karabakh conflict, stressing such clashes will be cause of concern, Mammadyarov added.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov talked of the statement issued by the Iranian, Russian and Azeri presidents that has stressed importance of expansion of trilateral cooperation in all fields.

As Lavrov said, the trilateral talks did help get the three countries' stance closer.
