Iranian deputy FM in Oman for diplomatic talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi on Tuesday held talks with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi in Muscat on a range of issues.

The two diplomats discussed ways to expand bilateral relations as well as the latest regional developments.

They also expressed the political will of the two countries to enhance political, economic and cultural ties and present it as a successful model for the other neighbors.

Sarmadi and bin Alawi also reached an agreement on a timetable for pursuing Tehran-Muscat bilateral affairs.

Bakc in February, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had voiced the countrys readiness to strengthen relations with Oman in all fields.

Oman is a good and reliable neighbor for Iran. We will keep up relations in all fields and see no ceiling on these ties, Zarif said at a joint press conference with bin Alawi in Tehran on February 20.

Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and military ties.

Omans Sultan Qaboos played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), which led to a nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015.
