Tehran warns Iranian nationals in Turkey to stay indoors

Tehran, July 16, IRNA Iran's Foreign Ministry and Iranian embassy in Ankara have separately urged Iranian nationals and tourists in Turkey 'to stay in your places until further notice and try not to attend any gathering.'

The statements released shortly after a group of Turkish military forces announed Friday night that they have seized power in that country.

The Iranian tourists in Turkey were asked to stay indoors and avoid going to busy places.

Iranian officials including Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed their concern over latest developments in Turkey in separate messages.

Shamkhani said that Iran is 'carefully and worriedly monitoring latest developments in Turkey and believes that instability will damage people's security and peace.'

While, Zarif in a twitted post released early Saturday morning said: 'Stability, democracy and security of people of Turkey is the top priority.'

According to dispatches, Turkey's military said on Friday it had seized power, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attempted coup would be put down.

'We will overcome this,' Erdogan said, speaking by mobile phone to the Turkish sister station of CNN.
