Iran not tried to violate nuclear deal; US official

ILNA: The United States has no information that Iran tried to procure materials that would violate the 2015 Joint Plan of Comprehensive Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said in a press briefing on Friday.

In its annual report released on Thursday, Germanys intelligence agency, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, said that Iran may have tried to acquire carbon fiber and other nuclear material after the JCPOA was signed in July 2015.

"We have no information to indicate that Iran has procured any materials in violation of the JCPOA," Kirby told reporters.

Furthermore, Kirby said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that Iran continues to implement its commitments under the deal.

The spokesman added that the German government shares the IAEA view and was not suggesting Iran has violated its JCPOA commitments.

In July 2015, Tehran and six international mediators reached a historic deal which guarantees the peaceful nature of its nuclear program in exchange for the gradual lifting of anti-Iran sanctions, which were imposed over fears that Iran was developing nuclear weapons.
