Iranian sprinter Hassan Taftian has won the first title in the 100-meter running contest at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Challenge meeting in Madrid.

On Thursday evening, the 23-year-old athlete clocked 10.04 seconds at the men�s 100-meter final and stood on top of the podium.

Spain�s Bruno Hortelano and Kemar Hyman of Cayman Islands registered 10.06 and 10.13 seconds respectively to land in the second and third places.

Taftian could also improve his national 100-meter time record of 10.10 by 0.06 seconds.

Additionally, Iranian discus thrower Ehsan Hadadi claimed a bronze medal by throwing 63.10 meters.

Austria�s Lukas Weisshaidinger finished in the first place with a personal best of 64.42 meters, and was followed by Mauricio Ortega from Colombia, who came second with 64.22 meters.

The IAAF World Challenge meeting was staged in Spain on June 23, 2016.

On June 4, Taftian recorded 10.15 seconds at the men�s 100-meter final of the Kelet Kupa tournament in Hungary and clinched the gold medal.

Two representatives from the host country registered 10.40 and 10.46 seconds respectively to claim the second and third spots.

The Iranian sprinter competed in the men�s 100 meters at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, on May 20. He finished with a time of 10.25 seconds to land in the third spot.

Six-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, who owns the 100-meter world record at 9.58 and the world 200-meter record of 19.19, finished in 9.98 seconds.

The silver medal went to Barbadian Ramon Gittens with 10.21 seconds.
