Iranian cyclist Pourseyedi top-ranked in Tour of Iran 2016


Iranian cyclist Mirsamad Pourseyedi hasdemonstrated impressive displays of athletic skills and prowess at the 31st edition of Tour of Iran (Azarbaijan), claiming the top spot at the end of the fourth stage of the international event.

On Monday, the 30-year-old member of the professional Shahrdari Tabriz cycling team rode a distance of 192.2kilometers (119.4 miles) from the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz to SareyninArdabil Province, and snatched the gold medal.

Rahim Emami of Irans Pishgaman Yazd Cycling Teampulled off the second silver medal and Hamid Pourhashem picked up a bronze medal for Tabriz Petrochemical also anIranian UCI Continental cycling team.

The UCI stands for Union Cycliste Internationale, the worldgoverning body for sportscycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based inSwitzerland.

On Sunday, Dutch road racing cyclist Derk Abel Beckeringh, who is currently riding for Parkhotel Valkenburg Cycling Team, registered 3:34.27, riding a distance of 139.9kilometers (86.9 miles) from the city of Jolfa to Tabriz to stand atop the podium.

Colombian rider Edwin Avila clocked 3:34.27 to receive a silver medal, and Oleg Zemlyakov from Kazakhstan earned the bronze with 3:34.29.

The 31st edition of Tour of Iran (Azarbaijan) kicked off on May 13, and will run through May 18, 2016.



A total of 21 teams have taken part in the tournament. The tour has six stages, with the total length of 1,005 kilometers (624.4 miles).

For the first time in the history of Tour of Iran (Azarbaijan), American UCI Continental cycling Team Illuminate is participating in the event.
