Iran urges practical change in Canadas conduct

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian deputy foreign minister urged the new Canadian government to show in a practical way that its policies differ from those of its predecessor.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said a round of talks has been held with Canada, adding that the two sides will maintain contact.

What matters is that Canadians should stay away from the very extremist policies of the previous government, either in words or action, the top diplomat stressed.

Despite some signs of shift in the language of Canada, Iran expects to see those changes in action.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had severed diplomatic relations with Iran in September 2012.

However, new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is willing to reopen the countrys embassy in Iran.

The Liberal leader won a majority election victory on October 19, 2015, toppling Harpers Conservatives with a promise of change and returning a touch of glamor, youth and charisma to Ottawa.
