Belgian nuclear plants original targets of Brussels attackers

Investigation reveals that original targets of the Brussels assaults were Belgium nuclear plants.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Belgian nuclear plants were original targets of the terrorists who committed Tuesday attacks in Brussels, local media reported Thursday.

The arrest of Salah Abdeslam, a suspect in November 13 Paris attacks, has pushed Brussels terrorists to hurry and target public transport instead of the nuclear sites, La Derniere Heure newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, Khalid and Brahim Bakraoui, the suspected perpetrators behind Tuesday's explosions, installed the camera in front of the house of the head of Belgian nuclear development program, and followed him.

On Tuesday, two suicide attacks took place at the Brussels Airport departure hall in the northeastern municipality of Zaventem and another explosion occurred at the Maelbeek station near EU institutions. At least 31 people were killed and 300 were injured in the attacks.

The Islamic State jihadist group, outlawed in many countries including Russia, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
