Swiss Pres. heralds new chapter in Tehran-Bern ties

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) Swiss President Johann Schneider-Amman in a Sun. meeting with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran assured a new chapter has begun in Tehran-Bern relations, following three days of intensive bilateral talks.Visiting Swiss President Johann Schneider-Amman held talks with Irans Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday, hailing the 140 years of strong relations with Iran and promising further efforts for improving the level of cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

Schneider-Amman, who is accompanied by two scientific and economic delegations in his visit to Tehran, said our scientific delegation comprises rectors of the best universities and scientific centers in Switzerland. The delegation signed six MoUs with the Iranian side which indicates our countrys keen interest in expanding scientific cooperation with Iran.

He went on to add the economic delegation consists of managers of 40 different companies active in various economic and industrial fields, mostly specialized in sector of technology.

Schneider-Amman further noted the presence of various minority groups in Switzerland, saying our countrys policy is based on dialogs and there is no such thing as majority there.

We wish to see the same policy of dialog in the relations of other countries such as Iran and Saudi Arabia, so that the dispute between the two countries could be partly solved, he added.

He also expressed hope the same approach could lead the situation in Syria, Yemen and other war-torn countries to be soon settled and the ceasefire could allow parties to sit at the negotiating table to end the bloodshed in the region.

Ali Larijani, for his part, commended the good relations between Iran and Switzerland, saying the two sides share many common view on international and nuclear related issues.

Larijani stressed that the policy of the Islamic Republic is to maintain peace and security in the region, saying countries must avoid hostile approaches and realize the period of occupation and domination has ended.

These behaviors must be reformed so that they would not be misused by terrorists, otherwise all countries would become involved in dealing with the problem, he said.
