Top advisor: Nimr's execution aiming to stir sectarian strife

Mashhad, Jan 6, IRNA International advisor to Majlis (Iranian parliament) speaker Hossein Sheikholeslam condemned the execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr by the Saudi government.

'The Saudi attempt in killing Ayatollah Sheikh Nimr was to inflame the war between Shia and Sunni and turning it into Muslim world' main problem,' Sheikholeslam said on Wednesday.

He went on to say that after the spread of the Islamic awakening in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yemen and Syria the global arrogance tried to make use of the awakening in its own interest, but it failed to achieve its goal as everyone saw in Syria.

'Saudi Arabia wants to turn the conflict between Muslims and the emergence of the ISIL terrorist group as the second issue of the Muslim world,' Sheikholeslam added.
