Iran ready for relief missions in Indias flood-hit areas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) In the wake of heavy monsoon rainfall in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu that caused massive flooding in the city of Chennai, Irans Red Crescent Society (IRCS) voiced readiness for relief and rescue operations in the flood-stricken regions.

Director General of IRCS Ali Asghar Ahmadi extended his condolences to India over the deadly floods in Chennai.

He said Iran is prepared to dispatch relief and rescue teams to the affected areas at the request of the Indian officials.

Ahmadi reiterated that the society is ready to send shipments of relief supplies to India, such as foodstuff, tents and heaters.

At least 280 Indian people have died since October 26, when the unusually heavy rains began in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

A short dry spell and receding water levels in a few areas are providing some respite to thousands of stranded residents, and the civilian and government-run relief workers navigating the densely populated city of Chennai.
