Iran's Rouhani urges collective fight against terrorism

Irans President Hassan Rouhani has stressed the importance of a coordinated and collective fight against terrorism.

President Rouhani said on Saturday that all countries must concentrate their efforts on the campaign against terrorism. He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi following a spate of bloody terror attacks in the French capital, Paris, late on Friday.

He added that over 17,000 Iranians have fallen victim to acts of terror, describingterrorism as abhorrent and horrific.

We are, however, confident that terrorists will never emerge victorious in the face of the determination of all nations and governments and will fail to achieve their objectives, he added.

The Iranian president further pointed to the cancelation of his scheduled visit to Italy and France and expressed hopethat the trip will take place at an appropriate time in the future.

He said the expansion of relations between Iran and Italy would serve the interests of the two nations as well as all countries in the region.

Following deadly terrorist attacks in Paris, the Iranian president cancelled a visit to Italy and France, which had been scheduledto take place on Saturday.

At least 127 people were killed and more than 200 others injured in a string of coordinated attacks in and around Paris late on Friday.

French President Francois Hollande said on Saturday that the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group was behind the attacks, which he termed as an act of war.

Shortly after Hollandes remarks, Daesh, in a statement, claimed responsibility for the assaults.

Irans leading role in fighting terrorism

The Italian premier reaffirmed the need to collectively battle terrorism and said Iran plays an instrumental role in the fight against terrorist groups.

Renzi also expressed Romes willingness to improve relations with Tehran in all fields and expressed hope that the Iranian president would make his trip to Italy as soon as possible.
