Iran, Italy will promote ties to the highest level: Envoy

Rome, Nov 13, IRNA Tehran has no restriction in its relations with Rome and bilateral ties will be promoted to the highest possible level, Iran's ambassador to Italy Jahanbaksh Mozaffari said on Thursday.

Speaking to IRNA on the eve of President Hassan Rouhani's state visit to Italy on Saturday, he stressed significance of the visit in the relations and said, 'It is not a coincidence that Italy was selected as the first European destination of President Rouhani's visit.'
'It was decided based on the history of mutual ties between the nations and indicates the depth of their joint interests,' he said.
The visit, Mozaffari added, carries the special message which originates from Iran's determination to expand and strengthen relations with European countries specially Italy.
'Italy can be regarded as the gateway to Europe,' he said, 'Numerous cultural similarities and profound friendship between our nations are rich assets for the future of bilateral relations.'
He said energy-related and transportation sectors have provided an apt atmosphere for investment and transfer of technology. 'Following the nuclear agreement, there are suitable conditions for investment. Major foreign and European firms are after signing contracts with Iran.'
On the current crises in the Middle East region, Mozaffari said they have also had negative effects on the European countries.
