TEHRAN (Tasnim) � A senior Iranian official on Tuesday said the humanitarian aid delivered by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to the people of Yemen is not enough, urging the world community to accelerate the dispatch of its aid to the war-torn country.

Iran�s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian highlighted the ICRC�s humanitarian responsibility to provide peaceful aid to countries involved in war, and described as insufficient the international body�s aid for Yemen.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Regional Director for the Middle East at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Robert Mardini in Tehran.

�Unfortunately, the miscalculations and measures of certain countries in violation of humanitarian principles and international rules have exacerbated adverse humanitarian conditions in countries going through crisis,� the Iranian official said.

�In some cases, they (the inhumane measures) even influence and put at risk the activities of international aid organizations,� Amir Abdollahian added.

He also called for effective moves by the international community for regular and rapid dispatch of humanitarian aid to the people of war-torn Yemen in a bid to prevent a humanitarian disaster from happening there.

Mardini, for his part, appreciated Iran�s cooperation in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Iraq and Syria, saying the ICRC is trying to deliver the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS)�s aid to Yemenis despite great difficulties.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to Yemen's Freedom House Foundation, the Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of nearly 4,500 Yemeni people so far while nearly 7000 others have been wounded.
