Iran's Syria envoy denies his assassination attempt

Iran
Iran's Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad-Reza Raouf-SheibaniIran's Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad-Reza Raouf-Sheibani has dismissed reports about an assassination attempt against himself and generals from Russia as well as Hezbollah officials inside the Syrian capital.
Such rumors are lies and lack authenticity and have been spread by ill-wishers only to affect the important achievement of the release of 48 Iranian hostages in Syria, Raouf-Sheibani said on Saturday.
Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya television network claimed on Friday that the Iranian ambassador, Russian generals and leaders of Hezbollah in Damascus were targeted on their way to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Forty-eight Iranian pilgrims, who were kidnapped by foreign-backed Syrian armed men on August 4, 2012, arrived at Tehrans Mehrabad Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The abductees arrived in Tehran, a day after they were released in a swap deal between the Syrian government and armed opposition groups.

They had been kidnapped by the militants when traveling on a bus from Damascus International Airport to the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (AS) on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
