Iran, Portugal underline counter-terrorism cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Portugal's prime minister in a meeting in Lisbon underlined the necessity for concerted action in the fight against terrorism.

Zarif, who arrived in Lisbon on Wednesday after a tour of Spain, met Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Manuel Passos Coelho Mamede in Lisbon.

The two officials held talks on a range of issues, with both highlighting the need for joint efforts in the fight on terrorism.

The Iranian top diplomat underlined that detailed and targeted planning without discrimination is needed for fighting terrorism and that different countries should play their role in this fight.

The Portuguese official, for his part, referred to counter-terrorism cooperation between Iran and the European Union as an effective way to enhance mutual trust.

He also noted that such cooperation will be beneficial to both the Middle East region and to Europe's security and stability.
