An open letter signed by 47 Republican senators warned Iran last week that any nuclear deal would be unlikely to last beyond Obama's second term in office. The GOP letter was a highly unusual intervention in American foreign policy.
The move was made following a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Congress on March 3 about Irans nuclear program. In the speech, Netanyahu warned Washington that it was negotiating a bad deal with Iran.
Tom Cotton, a freshman Republican senator from Arkansas, claimed that he had drafted the GOP letter.
However, independent analysts say the letter was essentially written by William [Bill] Kristol, the founder of the Emergency Committee for Israel, which is an American neoconservative group associated with the Israel lobby. The group reportedly provided one million dollars to Cotton just before the last election.
Its hard to imagine that Tom Cotton could have wrote this letter and as I understand he received $1 million from the Emergency Committee for Israel, which Bill Kristol has created, said Henderson, an author and columnist at Veterans Today.
So Im pretty sure Bill Kristol did write this letter, he added. Senator Cotton is an uneducated lawmaker who came out of nowhere to serve as a front man for neocons, Henderson told Press TV on Tuesday.
Kristol has been notorious for backing Israel and as a leading proponent of US military intervention in Muslim countries, including the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, in order to further the Zionist interests.
In 2010, Kristol criticized the Obama administration and then Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen for not attacking Iran over its civilian nuclear energy program.
Born into a Jewish family in New York City, the 62-year-old is the son of late Irving Kristol, a US journalist and writer who has been described as the "godfather of neoconservatism".
