Tehran, March 3, IRNA -- US House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus speech to Congress as an 'insult' to the United States.

I was near tears throughout the [Israeli] prime ministers speech saddened by the insult to the intelligence of the United States as part of the P5+1 nations, and saddened by the condescension toward our knowledge of the threat posed by Iran and our broader commitment to preventing nuclear proliferation, she said on Tuesday, Press TV reported.


Netanyahu called on the United States not to negotiate a very bad deal with Iran over its nuclear energy program.

Netanyahu said, Weve been told for over a year that no deal is better than a bad deal. Well this is a bad deal, a very bad deal. Were better off without it.

Iran and the P5+1 group - Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany are negotiating to narrow their differences over the Islamic Republics nuclear energy program ahead of a July 1 deadline.

Netanyahu said that it is not true that the only alternative to this deal is war.

The alternative to this deal is a much better deal. A better deal that doesnt leave Iran with a vast nuclear infrastructure and such a short breakout point, he added.

He said that the ongoing nuclear negotiations would provide Iran with a short breakout time for a bomb.

According to the deal not a single [facility] would be demolished because Irans [facilities] would be left largely intact, he said.

True, certain restrictions would be imposed on Irans nuclear program, and Irans adherence to those restrictions would be [monitored by international inspectors], he added. Inspectors document those restrictions, they dont stop them.

So this deal wont change Iran for the better, it will only change the Middle East for the worst, he noted.

Netanyahus controversial speech started on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. (local time). He was invited by US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner hours after President Barack Obama threatened to veto any sanctions legislation against Iran during his State of the Union address on January 20.

The Israeli premier called on the P5+1 group to make Irans missile program part of any possible agreement.

And by the way, if Iran's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program is not part of the deal, and so far, Iran refuses to even put it on the negotiating table, he said.

Well, Iran could have the means to deliver that nuclear arsenal to the far-reach corners of the earth, including to every part of the United States, he claimed.

This deal has two major concessions: one, leaving Iran with a vast nuclear program and two, lifting the restrictions on that program in about a decade. That's why this deal is so bad. It doesn't block Iran's path to the bomb; it paves Iran's path to the bomb, he said.

The United States and Israel accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Washington and its allies have imposed illegal sanctions on Iran based on the unfounded accusation that Tehran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear program.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran's civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.

Last week, Al Jazeera television network released a secret Mossad cable which revealed that Israel has been aware that Irans nuclear program is peaceful and does not include the activity necessary to produce weapons.

The Israeli spy agencys top-secret cable, leaked on February 23, concluded that Iran was not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons.

A similar CIA report, leaked on February 20, disclosed that Washington tried to mislead the IAEA about Irans nuclear program through the provision of doctored evidence.

The Mossad and CIA's leaked information appears to attest Irans argument that it is pursuing non-military goals in its nuclear program.
