Iran favors Saudi Arabia to stand by Iran as strategic partner

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA Saudi Arabia can as a strategic partner stand by Iran, but, of course requiring settlement of disputes, a member of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said on Wednesday.
'Saudi Arabia as an Islamic country in and important geographical situation can be Iran's strategic partner, after settlement of the disputes,' Said Abbas-Ali Mansuri in an interview with IRNA parliamentary reporter.
He said that the Islamic Republic's foreign doctrine is based on attaching a priority to expansion of relations with the neighboring and Islamic countries.

'Relying on many cultural and religious affinities between the two nations, both countries should resolve the misconceptions and disputes,' added the MP.

Mansuri said that the two countries can stand by each other take major strides to restore peace and stability in the region.

'Unfortunately, Saudi Arabian contributions to suspicious groups spending on fomenting discord within the Muslim World have made the Iran-Saudi relations a little difficult,' he said.

The Member of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said that reaching an agreement between the two countries on campaign against terrorism, establishment of peace and security in the region, and remedy to the oil prices will be effective steps to expand bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said earlier in the week that Iran is ready for holding a frank, explicit and comprehensive dialogue with Saudi Arabia on a cluster of issues of mutual interest.
