Abadan, Khuzestan Prov., Jan 1, IRNA � Head of IRI Customs Administration Masoud Karbasian said export of non-oil goods in the current year has increased to $35 billion.
Speaking at a ceremony commemorating martyrs of Shalamcheh in this southern Iranian province, Karbasian told IRNA that the highest figure of exports in the country belonged to Hormuzgan Province which was followed by Khuzestan.
He put exports from Shalamcheh border at $777 million and added that 500 truckloads of export goods transport from Shalamcheh to Iraq on daily basis.

Construction materials, petrochemical items, fruits and vegetables are the main Iranian commodities exported to Iraq, the official said, adding that Khuzestan province has a special place in transit of passengers as well as import and export of goods, especially in the port of Khorramshahr and Abadan.

Karbasian who is also Deputy Economic Affairs and Finance Minister pointed to railway transportation as a factor for the promotion of sustainable development and noted that if the plan for the connection of Khorramshahr railway to Basra is implemented transit of goods will be facilitated.

The head of Iran Customs Administration paid a visit to the cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr to inspect the trend of reloading of goods and offering services to passengers at Shalamcheh border terminal.

Elsewhere in his remarks Karbasian said Arvand Free Zone in terms of transit facilities, access to ports, export and neighborhood has ample capacities and thus embodies Abadan and Khorramshahr and urban areas of the two ports and has many employment opportunities.

Arvand Trade-Industrial Free Zone is located in northwest of the Persian Gulf and southwest of Khuzestan Province in the cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr. It has a span of over 173 square km and is situated on the crossing of Arvand Roud and Karoon River. It has joint border with Iraq and Kuwait.
