Senior Iranian legislator affirms close ties with Kuwait

TEHRAN, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the head of Iran's national security and foreign policy parliamentary committee, said on Monday factors that bring the Iranian and Kuwaiti peoples together are greater that those that may keep them apart.
Boroujerdi, speaking during a meeting with the visiting delegation representing the Kuwaiti-Iranian Friendship Association, held at headquarters of the Islamic Shura Council, said His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's visit to Iran, last June, resulted "in removing all doubts" shrouding the Kuwaiti-Iranian relations.
He expressed hope the current annual trade exchanges between Kuwait and Iran, estimated at USD 200 million, would be significantly enhanced.
Iranian diplomacy has always sought to implant confidence in its relations with the other states particularly the neighboring ones, he said, warning that "terrorist groups may take advantage of the complex regional situation to drive a wedge among peoples of the region." Turning to the Iranian nuclear file, the leading legislator said the Iranian nuclear program is aimed at employing this energy in the electrical and medical fields. "We understand concerns of the other states of the region in this respect," he said.

For his part, the association head, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Awadhi, concurred with him with respect of the tangible results of His Highness the Amir's visit, noting that it resulted in "establishing solid grounds for confidence and understanding." Geographic, religious and social aspects of the Kuwaiti-Iranian relationship are much greater than the political ties, he affirmed.
Meanwhile, the association secretary general, Adnan Al-Rashed, noted that the grass-root-level mission "is parallel to the official diplomacy."
