File photo shows an Iraq-Iran border post near the Iranian southwestern town of Shalamcheh.[/caption]Iraqs Interior Minister Mohammed Salem al-Ghabban says there is no major security problem along his countrys border with Iran, adding that Iraq's most secure borders are with the Islamic Republic.
In a meeting with Commander of Iran's Border Police Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei in Baghdad on Sunday, the Iraqi minister said full security along the two countries borders emanates from the highest level of mutual relations and security cooperation.
He added that the Iraqi government would draw up strategies to enhance security and facilitate visa issuance for Iranian pilgrims.
Ghabban further thanked Irans assistance to Iraq in the fight against the ISIL terrorists.
Iraq has been plagued by violence committed by Takfiri ISIL militants, who made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swathes of northern Syria.
Iran has announced its readiness to assist the neighboring country in its battle against the ISIL militants.
The Iranian commander, for his part, stressed the importance of Tehran-Baghdad ties in security and border sectors and said, Iraqs stability and security is [the same as] Irans stability and security.
During the meeting, Ghabban and Rezaei discussed major security issues, particularly those concerning the border areas and exchange of information.
