Iran has slammed intimidation and pressure against world countries by foreign states as violation of the UN Charter and principles of the international law.Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly Sixth Committee, member of the Iranian mission at the UN Hossein Qaribi noted that unilateral illegal actions by some countries aimed at imposing their policies against other nations through methods such as sanctions, run counter to the collective efforts to promote the rule of law and will bring about adverse consequences.
On Friday, Irans Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Ali Tayyeb-Nia lashed out at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for having adopted a politically-tainted approach vis--vis certain member countries, including the Islamic Republic.
He noted that unfair sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program have in fact targeted the Iranian nation.
At the beginning of 2012, the US and EU imposed sanctions on Irans oil and financial sectors with the goal of preventing other countries from purchasing Iranian oil and conducting transactions with the Central Bank of Iran.
On October 15, 2012, the EU foreign ministers reached an agreement on another round of sanctions against Iran. The sanctions have been imposed over Tehran's nuclear energy program.
