The United States has discussed the threat of ISIL Takfiri terrorists with Iran on the sidelines of the new round of nuclear talks in New York, says a US official.Jeff Rathke, spokesman for the US Department of State, made the remarks on Friday.
The news comes as US Secretary of State John Kerry has said that Iran has a role to play in the campaign against ISIL, which is operating in Syria and Iraq.
The shift in Washingtons tone takes place despite opposition by the US to the participation of Iran in the so-called coalition against ISIL.
Under the US pressures, Iran was not invited to the International Conference on Peace and Security in Iraq held in Paris last week, which aimed to address the issue of ISIL.
Iran, however, has repeatedly announced that it has no intention of participating at the so-called coalition against ISIL.
On Friday, Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the United States and its Western allies for adopting double standards on the activities of terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, saying such positions will, by no means, help eradicate terrorism.
The top Iranian diplomat added that it is impossible to fight terrorists in Syria while seeking to weaken the legal government in Damascus.
The ISIL terrorists control large parts of Syrias east and north. ISIL also sent its Takfiri militants into Iraq in June, seizing large swathes of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.
The Takfiri terrorist group has committed heinous crimes including mass execution of people and beheading of its hostages.
