Dushanbe, Sept 12, IRNA � Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Chinese President Xi Jinping in a meeting on Friday called for expansion of ties between the two countries to the strategic levels.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.


President Rouhani urged the execution of all agreements signed between the two states.

Chinese president hailed Iran's key role in the region and world and accepted his Iranian counterpart's invitation to visit Tehran the next year.

The two head of states also discussed the latest regional and international developments.

President Rouhani held separate meetings with the Afghan President Hamed Karzai, Minister of external affairs of India Sushma Swaraj and Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov this morning.

He is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the SCO summit and meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin on the last day of his tour of the region. He will also attend a luncheon to his honor by the Tajikistan parliament speaker.

President Rouhani arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday to attend the 14th SCO summit in Dushanbe.

The 14th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) opened here in the Tajik capital on Friday morning.
