TEHRAN (FNA)- King Felipe VI of Spain in a meeting with Iran's newly-appointed Ambassador to Madrid Mohammad Hassan Fadaei Fard on Monday called for the further expansion of bilateral relations.During the meeting in the Spanish capital, King Felipe VI pointed to the status quo of Iran-Spain relations, and said that Madrid is fully determined to have full cooperation with Tehran.
The two sides expressed the hope that Iran and Spain would further expand their mutual cooperation in the near future.
The Spanish king also said the Foreign Ministry and other state bodies in Spain are ready to cooperate with Irans new ambassador.
Last week, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi in a meeting with Chairman of the Spanish Parliament's Foreign Policy Commission Duran Lleida called for the expansion of relations between the two countries.
"Spain is an important country in the European Union that has the necessary potentials for mutual cooperation in regional and international areas," Sarmadi said during the meeting.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister described Iran-Spain relations as historical and age-old, and expressed the hope that the two countries' relations would further expand in energy, agricultural and industrial fields.
Lleida, for his part, described the two countries' relations good and friendly in all areas, and said, "The purpose of my visit to Iran is holding talks with senior Iranian officials on bilateral ties, specially broadening of mutual cooperation in the different sectors."
The Spanish official also expressed hope that the nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) would lead to a final agreement.
Iran and Spain have enjoyed amicable ties for centuries based on mutual understanding.
