TEHRAN (FNA)- Indonesian Envoy to Tehran Dian Wirengjurit referred to his country's abundant commonalities with Iran, and said Jakarta is interested in the further expansion of economic cooperation with Tehran.Addressing a meeting with members of a working group on development of Iran's Central province of Markazi on Thursday, Wirengjurit hailed Iran's economic potentials, and said Iran and Indonesia enjoy historical and cultural commonalities which can be used as a base for promotion of their economic cooperation.
He underlined that Indonesia is keen to enhance economic ties with the Muslim countries, including Iran.
Iranian officials have also underlined the necessity for the expansions of economic relations with Indonesia.
Head of Irans Chamber of Commerce Gholam-Hossein Shafeyee announced in February that Iran and Indonesia plan to launch a joint chamber of commerce in the near future.
As per our agreement, the offices of Iran-Indonesia Joint Chamber of Commerce will be opened in both in Tehran and Jakarta soon, Shafeyee said, addressing a meeting with Indonesian businessmen and industrialists.
He stressed that Iran and Indonesia should boost their mutual cooperation in regional and exports fields as well as their cooperation with the regional countries such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Shafeyee called on Irans private sector to propose practical mechanisms to boost the volume of trade transactions between Iran and Indonesia.
The value of trade transactions between Iran and Indonesia was merely $1.2 billion in 2011, but it should increase to above $5 billion in future, Shafeyee said.
Speaking in the same event, Iranian Ambassador to Jakarta Mohammad Farazandeh proposed setting up a joint fund to facilitate investments by the two countries traders.
