An American analyst says the recent agreement over chemical weapons in Syria thwarted the warmongering plots of Tel Aviv and its backers on Capitol Hill,Press TVreports.The big losers in this process are Israel and the supporters of Israel in the US Congress who are opposed to the whole procedure and were looking for active US military engagement. They have been put on the back foot at this point, James Petras said.
I think the process of investigation [of chemical weapons use in Syria] and [their] dismantling reveals that this is the way to go and I think it is strengthening the peace forces in the United States, the same people who are looking forward to negotiating with Iran and looking for peaceful resolution to the nuclear issue, he added.
A spokesman for The Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said on Thursday that the team of international investigators has visited nearly half of over 20 sites declared by the Syrian government.
"We are on track. The team is confident, the morale is high and cooperation from the Syrian authorities has been forthcoming," said Malik Ellahi, special adviser to OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumcu.
Petras further said that the Saudi-backed mercenaries in Syria operating out of Turkey are also on the back foot.
They (mercenaries) are attempting to scuttle the commission involved in the dismantling of the chemical weapons, attacking inspectors and trying to create an unsafe environment, but so far their efforts have been defeated, the expert stated.
He added that the pro-peace forces in the US are continuing to gain momentum, saying this would be a significant defeat for the pro-Israel lobby.
The analyst expressed concern over the shipment of toxic weapons by the Israeli regime and Saudi Arabia to their mercenaries in Syria, saying ... they set off some kind of a chemical weapon and try to blame Syria for it.
The OPCW team has until November 1 to inspect chemical weapons sites declared by Syria and to destroy or render unusable all chemical agent production and weapon-filling facilities.
The expert team in Syria is implementing a UN resolution on scrapping the Syrian chemical weapons arsenal. The United Nations Security Council approved the resolution on September 27.
On September 14, Russia and the United States agreed on a deal under which Syria would have its chemical weapons eliminated and the US would, in return, not carry out planned strikes on the Arab country.
