Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday that extremism in the Middle East region might engulf other parts of the world as well.
Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with the Lebanese politician and the head of Druze Democratic Party Amir Talal Arsalan in Tehran.

If extremist groups attain their sinister goals in Syria, they will move to other regions of the world, he said.

During the meeting, the Lebanese delegation exchanged views with Zarif on regional developments.

Praising the significant role of Lebanon in the Resistance Movement, Zarif expressed the hope that the Lebanese people would maintain its unity and defend the country?s territorial integrity.

Underlining the importance of unity among Lebanese political wings, he expressed concern about impacts of regional developments on the life style of the Lebanese people.

Referring to the crimes and atrocities being committed in Syria, Zarif described it as a catastrophe and said extremism is a mishap which is now expanding across the Middle East and North Africa.

Since terrorism might spread to other regions, putting an end to conflicts in Syria is of prime importance, Zarif underlined.

Arsalan, for his part, said the Islamic Republic of Iran has played a very significant role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

He also briefed Zarif on his views regarding regional developments particularly those taking place in Lebanon.
