Tehran, Dec 20, IRNA – Foreign Minister Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham called on the warring sided in South Sudan to show self-restraint and look for a peaceful resolution to their disputes.
Afkham voiced regret over the ongoing violence in South Sudan which has claimed hundreds of civilians so far and injury of many others.

She expressed the hope that with the rapid halt of the violence and bloodshed in South Sudan, the grounds will be paved for restoration of calm and people’s welfare in the African country

The United Nations received reports from South Sudan that between 400 and 500 people have been killed and as many as 800 wounded amid violence in recent days.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir called the action the beginning of an alleged coup attempt by soldiers loyal to his former deputy Riek Machar, who was fired in July amid a power struggle.

South Sudan became Africa’s youngest nation in 2011 after it broke away from Sudan.
