Iran’s vice president attends Ecuadorian president’s swearing-in ceremony

25 May 2013 - 15:10

Iranian Vice President for International Affairs Ali Saeedlou has participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa in the South American country’s capital, Quito.
Addressing reporters on Friday, the Iranian vice president called for strengthening the amicable bonds between Tehran and Quito.
“Both countries have elite people and revolutionary governments and we are happy that the ‘Citizens' Revolution’ - the slogan of Ecuador’s president - can continue,” Saeedlou said.
Fifty-year-old Correa, a member of an alliance of left-wing Latin American presidents, won re-election in February with about 57 percent of the vote.

The leftist leader has brought stability to the Latin American state, which saw seven presidents over the course of ten years before Correa came to power.

Major Latin American nations have enhanced their diplomatic and trade ties with Iran in recent years. The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.
