Iran’s container transport increased by 61%: Official

24 Jun 2017 - 15:48

June 24, The Iran Project – Managing Director of Iran Container Shipping Line has announced that during the first two months of this year, Iran’s container transport has grown by 61% compared to the same period last year.

Speaking to a reporter on Saturday, Managing Director of Iran Container Shipping Line Hamzeh Keshavarz said despite the fact that last year, the world’s 9 giant container shipping lines lost money due to the market situation, Iran’s container shipping company was able to make profit.

Referring to the launching of a straight line between the western Indian ports of Kandla and Mundra to Iran's southeastern port of Chabahar, he noted that currently, there are 3,000 containers reserved that should shipped in this route, and a significant number of cargoes have already been discharged.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Managing Director of Iran Container Shipping Line stated that due to the formation of some strategic unions since April 2017, the container fares have been increasingly grown in the world and 9 major container lines had to merge or bankrupt.

It is worth mentioning that after the removal of international sanctions against the country,  transport performance improved mainly so that international shipping lines resumed services to Iran.
