BERLIN (AP) -- Several prominent Germans are urging the U.S. and Europe to take in members of an Iranian opposition group whose lives are at risk in Iraq.
The call was made Wednesday at a meeting in Berlin of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, whose militant wing is housed at a former U.S. base in Baghdad. A rocket attack last February claimed by a Shiite militant group killed at least seven members.

Iraq's government considers the 3,100-strong group as terrorists and moved them to the camp pending resettlement abroad.

But the process has stalled because countries are reluctant to accept them.

The Germans, including a former senior diplomat and an ex-advisor to Chancellor Helmut Kohl, said Germany should take in the exiles as a humanitarian gesture.
