Environment protection should become dominant issue: Judiciary Chief

6 Mar 2016 - 15:01

Tehran, March 6, The Iran Project – Respecting environment is a debate which goes beyond the branches, Iran’s Judiciary Chief says, stressing that this issue should become a part of public culture.

Ayatollah Amoli Larijani, the Judiciary Chief of Islamic Revolution made the remarks during the Third National Congress on the Environmental Law which is underway in Pardisan Park in Tehran.

Highlighting the need to transform the environment protection issue into a public culture, he stated that for this end all branches and state bodies should take responsibility, as it is not possible to attain the goal only through judicial treatments.

Referring to the importance of the teaching kids to respect the animals, the judicial official underlined the revision of some existing laws.

He went on to add that the judiciary branch seeks criminalization and intensification of treatment with any violation of environment law, although the body essentially considers the policy of decriminalization.

Iran's Department of Environment has suggested formation of the expert branches to investigate environmental crimes which we hope to establish soon, he reiterated, adding that the Judicial Research Institute is a bridge to connect judges to the department’s officials.

Organized by Iran’s executive, legislative and judicial branches, the Third National Congress on the Environmental Law is underway from March 5-6 2016 in Pardisan Park, Tehran.
