Former top negotiator hails nuclear negotiations achievements

20 Apr 2015 - 17:56

Tehran, April 20, IRNA -- Iran’s former nuclear negotiator Hossein Mousavian on Monday hailed achievements made in nuclear talks with the western governments.

He made the remarks in a meeting with supporters and critics of Lausanne negotiations at Allameh Tabatabai University.

Nuclear negotiators made nine big political gaps in the world which is quite unprecedented in the world history, Mousavian added.

He said that the nuclear talks widened gap between US decision makers, the Israeli lobbies, European states, world powers and Arab allies of US and that the world is divided about talking with Iran.

For the first time in the history of Iran and US relations, US President Barack Obama declared that he is ready to negotiate with Iran without precondition, the analyst added.

He said that Obama in his speech to the UN General Assembly acknowldged the religious edict from the Iranian Supreme Leader prohibiting production and use of weapons of mass destruction.

Speaking about the achievements made in the nuclear negotiations, he said that as the result of talks, Iran's nuclear related sanctions will be removed and in the meantime, its enrichment cycle and heavy water reactor will be okayed by the international community.

Mousavian said American officials repeatedly confessed that pressures and sanctions have not worked about Iran.

Foreign critics of Iran-G5+1 negotiations believe that if the sanctions are removed, Iran will become a major regional power, he added.

On April 2, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers adopted a joint statement after marathon talks in Lausanne calling, among other things, for the removal of the UNSC sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The statement was read out in a joint press conference in the Swiss city by the EU high representative Federica Mogherini and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
